Dear CDA Sisters:
Have you ever considered applying for a State Office but hesitated because you did not know enough about the roles, responsibilities and duties of the position? If your reply is yes, then the MA State Court Mentorship program may be just the answer to your prayers! For the upcoming fiscal year, August 2022 to June 2023, the MA State Court will pilot a Mentorship program, the goal of which is to help members become more informed about what it means to hold a state office and to hopefully, be the catalyst to encourage more qualified members to answer the call to serve when the call for nominations is put forth.
Attached is a summary of the program and an application form. We ask that you please read the material enclosed and, if qualified, consider applying for this opportunity to learn more about how you can make a difference by your service to CDA.

February 2019 - An important announcement from our State Legislation Chair:
SD109 An Act to Remove Obstacl...pdf (137 KB)
Dear CDA Members:
State Senator, Harriette L. Chandler has filed a bill, SD 109 "An Act to Remove Obstacles and Expand Abortion Access." The bill already has 40 co-signers.
The bill, if passed, allows for the abortion of an unborn child up to the time of birth and it eliminates the necessity of a consent by a parent or guardian regardless of the age of the mother. The bill redefines the definition of pregnancy and abortion and eliminates all mention of an "unborn child" (language used in the current law). The bill allows abortion on demand for just about any reason one wishes to provide.
As far as I can tell, the bill has not as yet been assigned to committee and no public hearings have been scheduled.
We have been in contact with the Archdiocesan Pro-Life Office and will keep you updated as more information is made available.
A copy of the bill is attached. Check to see if your State Senator has signed on to this bill. If so, you are encouraged to contact him/her and let them know you strongly oppose any legislation that expands abortion on demand and definitely not after the 24th week of pregnancy.
Reminder: when contacting any elected representatives, you do so as a private citizen/constituent and NOT as a member of CDA.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Carol Ghiloni, Legislative Chairwoman, caghiloni@aol.com or 781-395-2088.

September 14, 2017: From our Brothers in Christ with Knights of Columbus. Please read on:
Subject: MAJOR PRO-LIFE EVENT
Date: July 24, 2017 at 10:43:28 PM EDT
MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST,
I am happy and overjoyed to announce a major Pro-Life Event. The Knights of Columbus Council 202 Haverhill, MA is sponsoring a concert September 14, 2017 at All Saints Church in Haverhill, MA featuring John Michael Talbot. All proceeds are to benefit the purchase of an ultrasound machine to be placed in a pro-life doctor's office in Haverhill. Free ultrasounds will be given to all pregnant women referred to the doctor by the Pregnancy Care Center of Haverhill and from our Pro-Life warriors who stand every day in front of the Abortion Clinic in Haverhill on Groveland Street. As you know, it is a fact that 90% of women contemplating an abortion change their mind when they have an ultrasound performed.
I am begging all of you to support this event by posting the flyer in your church bulletins and, God willing, purchase tickets. You can either call me or order tickets online.
Either way, please act now. This event will put Council 202 over the top to purchase the machine. As you all know, council 202 has been working on this project for over two years now. We are committed to finishing this event this year with this concert.

February 22, 2012 - Ash Wednesday. Join the challenge! A note from 2nd Vice State Regent Patricia Johnston:
I have an idea - I'm thinking
40 acts of kindness in 40 days. We all, as CDA ladies do such things in the normal course of our lives, but let's each of us challenge one another to go the extra mile in these days of Lent. I am thinking small, nothing heroic, but nonetheless meaningful and stretching. Say an extra Rosary, call a friend, spend time in adoration of the Sacred Heart, make the Stations of the Cross, visit a shut-in, let someone pass in front of you even when you are in a hurry. say a special prayer for the person that says "I just don't have time to attend a service to get Ashes" (how sad for her - I heard this on the radio this AM), provide a meal for a neighbor (you can buy it), donate to a cause you never considered, smile at a stranger in public, offer a compliment - it may be the only one that person receives that day, tell someone how much their prescence in your life means to you (we all like to be appreciated) ......you get the picture. The key is to have this foremost in your mind so you never forget to "pay it forward". If you are up to the challenge, you are on the clock starting now. Remember, only ONE extra kindness/day, but who's counting! Need a form to keep you on track?
